use both the petzl and isc grabs, dont use any prussiks in any of my climbing systems, the little bit of wire does fray, it only applies pressure to the cam when not under load, otherwise it walks off down the rope. They will still pass loler inspections without the wire. Anyway prussiks so dated, they are the equivalent of the old 45rpm single, things got better and moved on. I bet everyone uses an mp3 player of some description, they dont take a tape player to work or up the tree.

Not on my shift! The wire is there for a valid reason. Why would you want pressure to the cam when not loaded?

From my small bit of climbing experience I can see no reason to move away from prussiks. I have a nice short cord and a pulley behind for one-handed tightening. I gotta agree with some that say they can get closer to the stem but I've not found a reason to be super-close yet.

 

I prefer simple systems that don't rely too much on mechanisms .

 

 

Forgot to add .... rope is soooooo much cheaper.

I'd personally apply common sense. I the replacement placed pressure upon the cam when unloaded, preventing freefall in emergency why not?

I got my wire from BnQ,slightly thicker than standard, I have replaced mine and Mr Tee's with it. The grub screws, which I also needed to replace I got from a pluming supplier.

 

On my Loler course I was told the wire was only there to prevent loss of the cam as a pin was originally fitted and not a bolt.
