Sorry for slight derail but are Shindaiwa and Echo one and the same? Just asking as got given an old Shindaiwa brush cutter and could do with a few spares.

Echo and Shindaiwa merged in 2009 under the newly formed Yamabiko Corporation; Yama was set up in lieu of Kioritz Corporation (aka echo). Pre merger; Echo was simply the trading name for Kioritz. Kioritz are arguably the best 2-cycle engine manufacturer in the world, kawasaki right there jostling for position!

Radmores for parts I'd have thought...

What're the 500p's goin for? I'll prolly get into one and port it once it's broken in. That 600P is heavily modded, more than I would usually do for a work saw. One of the nice things about the Echo's is the CDI does a great job advancing the timing, so I am told. So no need for you to fiddle with the timing yourself.

The Echo 500P is basically a new Shindaiwa 502S with a few modern updates. It is VERY light and powerful once it's muffler modded and broken in. I would just port it to add some torque to run 3/8's.

You know this sums it up really; you can have the same old same old Stihls and Huskies with all their current issues or you can go Dolmar and Echo which mod well, handle better and cost less.
