Sorry only viewed the first post picture. Yes they are opposite so probably Acer but not davidii.

 

Maybe the variant, Ernest Wilson?

 

Lets keep it nice guys, this has been a difficult one to pin down on an id,but no doubt we will get it pinned down with discussion.:001_smile:

Yep, I'd lean towards that definitely. Even some of the experts don't agree on A.davidii, some treating subsp. groserii as a subspecies and others a species in it's own right.
