Cedar, is it any good?

I think people get confused with Thuja...Western Red Cedar which is decay resistant and oily(?). Used for cladding, shingles etc. Of all the cedar I've felled in the past none of the mills are really interested.

I am actually going to look at them with the guy from the mill in an hour, I'll take some pics, I am sure they are deodars though.

Cedar is a great wood to mill and work for external uses. Milled a wrc a few years ago but never milled a deodar or lebannon but would love to. Isn't the highest value wood, but if he's collecting for free he's getting a great deal, gotta be worth a drink at least. Any cedars in bucks id be there in a flash.

sounds like that may be the case here as what i used was quite dry and not oily at all. big j suppied me with "cedrus deodara"

its actualy a piece for my mum so i utilised the course requirements to construct this.

 

 

im going to put up a thread soon show casing some of my work and hope to hear some good comments.

the course was a city and guilds furniture making and design level three, part time at the oxford and cherwell vally college using the NSF (national school of furniture) fascilities.

 

i hope for a distinction.

Here they are, we settled on him lending me a bloke for the day, as I said there's plenty of money in the job anyway so I'm not going to get all greedy.plus he will take everything too big for the TW.
