Seems a tremendous shame to fell that. What is the reason for opting to remove it? Can it be saved? I say this as a sawmiller with a vested interest in stems like that, but I'd put that tree at over 300 years old and I just don't think that we should be felling such examples unless there is a very good reason.

its lifting the flags coursing a trip hazard so needs to go ,re h&s :001_tongue:

If the client genuinely is only worried about health and safety I'd be happy to offer my services to come up with alternative solutions. A tree like that simply cannot be replaced in any of our lifetimes! Feel free to pass on my details or get in touch.

surely the flags were put in the way of the tree....

 

it is a shame to fell a tree purely be cause its causing a few slabs to lift up especially when its such a magnificent specimin. i'm with big j on this one save the tree!.

Quite right! Extending the circle around the tree must be a better option??
