I get a bad back occasionally, I find hanging upside down for a few minuets in the climbing harness helps correct my spine. It doesn't work for when it's a muscle injury, when it's muscle strain I use Ibropufen to reduce inflammation, this also stops 'referred pain' which causes other muscles to tense up to protect the back, which results in more stiffness and a longer recovery time. After a day or two of rest and ibropufen, you can

then start to increase the blood flow to help healing. This is when its best to use stuff like Deep Heat and hot baths. I also have one of those ab belts that sends electrical impulses to tense the muscles, the one I have has a rehab setting which helps reduce pain and speed up recovery.
