small log mill or 24inch alaskan

Having spent half the day reading this forum I now really want a chainsaw mill! I mainly just want one but I think I could probably make some usable/salable products for my landscaping business. To start with I shall be using it with my ms390 with a 16inch bar and then I shall be using my 044 when its restored, probably running a 20 inch bar.

So what do you recommend the small mill or the 24inch? I understand that you lose about 6 inches of cutting length with an alaskan?

Thanks, William.

I had the same decision to make a couple months back.

Went for the 24",very pleased with it and glad i didnt go for the small log mill.

I think the 044 is around 70cc so i would imagine a little under powered to run the 30" bar you need to use the full length of the 24"

You should be aware that your maximum milling width using the Alaskan Mill Mrk III is about 6" less than the length of the bar. This loss is due to the clamping brackets, and especially having to clamp the nose below the sprocket.

So with a 16" bar you are left with a maximum milling capacity of 10" (give or take).
