Interesting Biomechanics

Beech have a rather underestimated capacity to cover wounds, and are considered "fragile" with regards to their durability but images like those above contradict that view, as do many many fine old beeches within the ancient woodlands I visit.

I have seen massive stubs entirely enclosed by beech, they are remarkable trees and far more durable than they are given credit for.

You have obviously missed the point Tony - IT LOOKS LIKE A CUTE LITTLE BABY ELEPHANT:laola:

Fine set of grafted limbs on this heavily epicormicked Lime

.

While were talking mechanics MonkeyD i thought i might offer this set of shots for your watch as it where, not too late for this one me thinks:001_cool:

A nice oak on the return to KW, close by a pheonix oak on other side to path (photo enclosed for location purposes)

Its got a wide crown and resides in an opening within the canopy area, is suffering many hazard beams forming and active. I would say this was the most "mechanically stressed" tree i saw on my jolly to HH

That specific tree has been considered along with approximately 800 other vets.

But tbh it's quite far down the list.

We're aiming to get 50 a year worked on.

That's aspirational as other priorities kick in.

probably more like 50 every 18 months or so.

Currently on the second tranche of trees.

Will keep an eye on the one you mention.
