Help please, thread gone on 088

Whilst a mate was using my 088, it made a poof sound and he discovered the thread that the spark plug goes into is worn and unworkable. The saw is probably 10 years or so old, though has not had a great deal of use, probably comes out about 3 or 4 times a year. Does anybody have any ideas of how I could repair this without replacing the part as its a very expensive part to replace.

Try a helicoil but it may blow out again under pressure

 

Guess its useless as it is so nothing to loose trying

I have used helicoil's before on my motorcycle heads with good results

you can buy the kits for spark plug repairs

I'm sure spud uses something else. Might be wrong, do remember a thread about it a short while ago.

I did it on a VW cylinder head . no problem .

I turned up a headed insert and bored out the cylinder head and shrunk the insert in . Worked fantastyic but felt a bit silly when someone showed me the spark pug specific helicoil !

a properly inserted helicoil, or recoil insert will give you no problems at all, there stronger than the original thread

Maybe that's what the thread wa all about. It's in my mind somewhere about the kits you can get. There was some (ahem) discussion over what ones actually worked. :lol:

 

The helicoil system should work ok I say should as I'm not saying it will or won't, personally I won't do it to a machine I get in as the risk of it coming back to me. Would rather replace with new, but the cost of the new cylinder on a 088 is huge.
