Redwood topping.

Got the chance to work on 3 large redwoods this weekend. When we measured last year when we did a tree inspection they cam in at 143-148ft high.

We are taking 20ft out the tops. There is a house below them and green houses.

Should be fun.

Maybe it's to get more light? Knocking the top off always seems to work.

Not my job but as far as I gathered longitudinal crack on the stem and some buckling also.

I've dismantled a couple of big redwoods. The first was torture! Every branch was just touched with a silky and exploded. You do that a couple of hundred times until you get to the top and you're thinking 'what the hell is this gonna do!?' Then it just comes off like any other top! Awesome fun though

Why the strange spec?

Not sure. Did the 1st tree today. Just thin the canopy to allow wind through. And deadwood

Tomorrow top the 2 rear redwoods and deadwood.

A bit dusty.

 

On the way there a pheaent flew out the hedge and smashed the windscreen.

As soon as you top redwood you pretty much reduce the lifespan of these incredible trees to 20-30 years. It also starts a costly cycle of future maintenance.

As much as I don't like it I,ve done a few myself, certainly would never reccomend it and would always strongly advise against it.
