Its really good on straight grained easy split wood - it can split very fast. I find it awkward to sharpen with the fiskars sharpening thing. It cuts into it as I go.

I wrecked my cheap splitting maul last week on a steel wedge, :sneaky2:yes a bad aim as I was leaning over a fence to hit it:laugh1:

Dean I can't make yours out in the picture, looks like a sledge hammer:confused1:

Or have you Deanified it:biggrin:

Yep got the axe but not the maul . Axe is very light . Makes fast work of easy splitting stuff .

Agreed, but I'm getting the maul as well for blatting in wedges when I need too.

I don't mean to have a dig with this question as I don't know others' circumstances but why are you bothering to split stuff that needs a maul? Why not just turn it on its side and put a saw through it or keep a separate untidy heap of gnarly stuff that won't be ready to burn for three years? Some people like to have a stock of big logs to keep a fire in overnight.

I've got the x27 and can highly rate it for splitting rounds, even elm which is a right bar/steward but with determination it splits.... the extra long handle means you just don't have to swing as hard, the rounds do just jump apart, awesome bit of kit!!

I want the axe next, will post a pic of the massive rounds of willow I been splitting tomorrow.
