I have had Landrover Disco and Defender since 1994. Currently my Disco has done 253,000 and my Defender 136,000, both are 03 plate.

My first Disco I sold at 274.000 relatively trouble free miles, this one has been a bit of a pain since 180,000. 2 breakdowns requiring recovery + 2 local tow homes.

Defender has been pretty good, had to replace the injector seals recently and there is a large clunk coming from somewhere in the transmission.

So in short Defender and older Disco are not to bad at all up to 180,000, the new V6 Disco (05 plate onwards) is a real money pit though, avoid at all costs. Defender double cabs are a good tow vechicle, a company called Ashcroft Transmissions has I understand developed an auto box for it.

Have you owned one???:confused1:

I bought my 56 plate as a demonstrator from the main dealer with under 4k on the clock, its been a great motor, had a few repairs, but nothing major.

Its only fault is its MPG.

People slag them off, (mostly those who have never owned them:sneaky2: ) but they must be the best selling 4x4 for a reason.

Having worked on a few I can agree its a good car but like all cars now, it is designed with the emphasis on low cost to build regardless of how expensive that makes it to maintain.

The diy mechanic is going to have problems he didn't have with earlier models but that can be said of most manufacturers for quite some time now
