Nissan cabstar tipper??

Hi all, im thinking of getting a nissan cabstar tipper, because most of my work is domestic tree and hedge work, and think it will be a good all rounder little truck rather than a larger truck e.g. transit iveco etc

I run a ford ranger at the moment but want something with a bit more chip carrying capacity.

 

Heard some good reviews about them, just wondered what other tree folk who use them think of them, running costs, pulling ability etc

 

Another thing is that alot of the older ones are single rear wheels and dont think that would be suitable!

 

Anyone??

HI HAM ask eggs he will tell you about the cab star i no there good road but off road there no good and when we have snow on road thanks jon

Good trucks, reliable, pull anything and carry anything.

Thirsty, ridiculous price on genuine spares.

 

Trucks are all going to be 3.5ton GVW. Twin wheels just knock the weight of the wheels off what you can actually carry = Single wheel versions actually have a greater payload than duals.

Have had 3 ton load on single wheels with no issue at all. (other than being overloaded)

I have used a short wheelbase with a full chip box and a long wheelbase with a MEWP.

Both for me had awfull driving positions and a bouncy ride that left me feeling weary.

Also...utter pants near anything slippery.

Our Iveco has a lovely ride, better than our Navarra in fact but less pants off road than the Cabstar was.

Next time, an Iveco with difflock option and knarly tyres.

Often wondered how easy or not it would be to fit a rear axle off a Terrano onto a cabstar. So you have a limited slip diff.

 

Nissan claim my Cabstar will do 20 to the gallon. I think that's thirsty.

The old ones definitely rotted (mine did quarter of a million miles first which is how far away the moon is!) but my current one which is a 2000 model is a lot different. No rot on the cab but some on the back. Only bit on the cab is where a seam is starting to swell, other than that it is perfect as far as rust goes.

there great little trucks i have had one (still got it buried at back of yard) & i loved it they will get in any driveway with no problem mine was an old f23 model with the 2.5 flat diesel engine & single rear wheels!

 

the truck was not a rocket ship truth told they get a little hot if they are pushed they like 50-60mph on the motorway so not a distance truck but great locally

it had a payload of 1.7ton legally but would carry more a LOT more with out any trouble or looking over loaded ( i poped a couple of engines in mine due to the amount of weight & abuse it got in & out of quarries & tips all day every day)

 

they do spin a bit in mud but i never got mine stuck so bad it could not get its self out ( i just used to put the tipper body up to get some weight over the back axle)

 

they are expensive on genuine parts & the old ones do rot!

 

all in all i rate them very highly & would have another tomorrow!!!
