His house is about 10m away from my van when I did start up. The drive runs between either house and the forks either way to each others garage.

Do you guys get angry at the bin man when he come before 7?

Do you not see the difference between 7AM and 4.30AM??

I would get very angry if my bin men came at 4.30AM.

How much noise does a van idling actually make? Unless you're sleeping with the windows open (in the middle of winter :confused1:) I can't see that it would disturb anyone.

If it's doors slamming and kit being thrown in the back with associated loud clunks and bangs then fair enough he's got a point, but just a van idling - the guy must have bat like hearing.

I can see how warming up a diesel for 10 mins in a small housing estate at 4.30am would irk someone too, but if it were only once, in the dead of winter, I'd cut the obviously hard working chap some slack, I would not wait 2 years and then write a letter about it, including other pifflingly small minded complaints.

Would anyone else moaning about this 4:30 thing seriously wait 2 years to say something?

Tell the bloke to get a grip, anyone listing complaints from 2 years ago deserves rectal intimacy with the rough end of a pineapple, period.

Regardless of Job status or occupation, in winter I always allow whatever vehicle to warm up a bit before I drive off. Especially since I have owned deisels.

Yes they do warm up better on the road, but IMO it isnt a good idea to drive off the moment you start up. Allow the viscosity of the oil to thin a bit and get around the working parts.

You would be amazed what the mind can tune into. I used to get up to feed my youngest during the night, and noticed a van would pull up over the road some 50m away from my house. The van would turn up every Thursday at 4.30am and drop something off at the painter and decorators house who lived over the road. It would take a matter of minutes to occur. This went on for about two years, and every Thursday id be woken up by this event occurring.

Stick a bee in some-ones bonnet and watch it irritate them. I personally wouldn't leave my wagon for ten minutes idling on the drive before 6am at the earliest. But we all have different tolerance levels.

Look at some of the tolerances people have for each other in here haha....

However I also do not do my after maintenance saw start when im at home if it can be helped. I wait till out on the job and make it my priority task.

I know many business men who have had to accept the cost of relocating their business activities due to neighbourly complaints. As your business grows there will be something at sometime that you have to do that will constitute 'business at home' beyond what is permitted, and guess who will be there to tell you about it? The neighbour...

I would seriously consider as to whether you do nothing and carry on as if nothing is going to happen. Wind him up at your peril would be my advice!!!
