arrange for an unknown "friend" to have a quiet word in his ear where no one can see or overhear, and have him told to wind his neck in or his legs might find themselves "accidently" being broken, if he says anything to you about it just shrug and smile, if police are involved, you have deniability, you never said a word

Seriously, are you advocating physical harm over the use of a driveway?

you can run from home, if you claim for an office at home expect to be charged business rates on that room.

After 7.30-8am weekdays anyone can make a noise, the amount of DIY I ignore from my neighbours, live and let live is the way.

Tesco vans always block my shared drive for my neighbours unloading their food so unloading tools is no different.

couriers store their motorbikes at home, a chipper is a two wheeled machine.

most people have garden tools in the shed so how can they stop you storing garden tools regardless of use, you may need an 88 to trim the rose bush, no law says you only use clippers :)

I had a complaint for storing less than half a ton of split logs outside, they caught me out when I said its for me, followed by well where's your chimney haha :laugh1:

My neighbour, Cupid Stunt as I like to call him, has just posted a letter though my door stating that he wants me to relocate my business:confused1:

At present I have my van in my space of the shared driveway. I have a double garage which is used to store my chipper, saws, trimmers and blah blah blah.

I do cut wood up and split with an axe for firewood only for my own consumption though. I do maintainance on Saturday after 10am consisting of a little compressor to blow the saws out. The odd saw may be started for a couple of minutes. But nothing major. Wood chip goes to a guy down the road.

I get along with all the other neighbours but thus guy upsets everyone, I guess it my turn:biggrin:

I suppose what I am asking is he right am I running a business from home?

In my eyes I only store my work equipment at home.

Cheers Horatio

Are you sure you have not had problems with him before? If not, why call him the "Cupid Stunt"? Hardly shows a mature and easy going relationship from your part when you introduce him to us with a tag like that.

I feel there is a little more to this story, or possibly you are just as antagonistic as him:confused1:

P.S. On the legal front, you can run a business from home, store kit there etc, but not operate as Treequip pointed out. Only limitations are if there's anything in your deeds/rental agreement stating otherwise about parking commercial trucks etc.

I personally would avoid cutting your own wood at home, and keep the revving of saws to an absolute minimum. Doing this will draw attention from any neighbour and get the council on your back.

If people weren't allowed to run their business's from home there would be scores of folk out if work

Operating a tree surgery outfit from your garage on a Barrett estate!!! Is something else

Tell your neighbour anymore letters will be classes as harassment which is a criminal offence!!!

Dont antagonise the guy by adding fuel the fire!! Can you not cut your logs on the job and just do the manual splitting at home making hardly any noise? Most of your maintenance is done on the workbench without making any noise and you could limit any running to a very short period or when grumpy is out?

Winding him up by ignoring him will only keep this issue running and be stressful for both of you. Take heed of some of his issues and he might cut you some slack on other things bugging him.

Remember that there are likely to be other neighbours who dont like the sound of a screaming saw at weekends, but havent complained....yet!

Correspondence about a perceived civil dispute like this is highly unlikely to be treated as harassment. :001_smile:

I had this problem a couple of years back some one called the council about 2 trucks parked in the road and running a business from home , but as long as I informed them and kept my trucks on the drive and that the only disruption was ten minute getting the chipper in and out and I wasn't starting the saw up at al hours they where fine , and the lady how paid us a visit was fine us And we never heard any thing else
