The best front mounted chipper for a mog?

It really is a buyers market for Unimogs at the moment.

Prices are down 30% from what they were 6 years ago when I bought mine.

 

Here is a 1994 U1600,with front PTO,only travelled 30,000 Miles,new MOT etc.

 

£22,000!!

 

Fly over,drive it to Danmark,take the Ferry to Harwich or Immingham.

 

Save Big!

I had a front chipper (Ducker) on my U1200 and it was great, I only parted with it because I wanted the increased payload of the U1600.

 

I have been running a unimog with front mount chipper for well over 10 years, IMO its the best option for tree work.

 

IMO, putting the chipper on the rear, adding to the weight of the chip is a mistake, they end up looking like a speed boat and have similar handling characteristics.

 

Sorry, I should have expanded on that.

Putting a chipper on the front of a Mog is an excellent idea and I wished I had done it.

It depends what size and weight of chipper on the front of a U1200. The 8" Schleising is a lot lighter than a 9-12" Bandit or Jensen.

I had a u1200 with a heavy Jensen on the back and putting it on the front would have created all sorts of problems.

 

My point is: lightweight Mog and heavy chipper is not wise, especially if the chipper is up front. Sorry I didn't make it clear.

Some duckers are both, they have 2 ptos, 1 either side of the main shaft to the fly wheel.

So 1 turns it one way and vice versa and then it's a matter of a frame that does both din plate and linkage.

The schiesling just has a reversing gearbox on it.

Some u1200's have updated springs on them, bigger engines and generally a lot more solid than standard u1200's, 1 like that would be worth considering:001_rolleyes:

And if it already had something mounted on the rear, it would make sense:biggrin:

The Bandit in the picture was a 12" capacity with a 12.5x 19" opening so yes a large chipper. The front springs were upgraded in this instance but the mog was fine & still is, chipper weighs approx 1600kgs but can be fited with a hydraulic sideshift made by ourselves to move the chipper for transport.

 

6, 9,12 & 14" available but they are front or rear only not both as they are built completely different.

Duckers are verry good in my opinion the newer ones are better they dont need the blower and have a verry good draft on them we have both vereants chippers on the fornt of mogs are pritty easy to live with too yeah they over hang but you can see all the over hang and you can tip off the back if you prefer.
