A new hybrid

Sorry probably wrong wording. The ZZ ascends up the rope by pulling the tail of rope below ZZ. But when it's set up the normal way, button pointing inwards, it doesn't ascend up by pulling the tail.

Ha ha. Sorry to be confusing. I'll try again.

 

As far as I remember, using the petzl ZZ, I climbed arm over arm and pulled the tail of rope through. With a bit if height it would self tend. But I don't remember if by just pulling on the tail of rope below the ZZ would ascend it up the rope.

 

But using the hybrid does ascend it up the rope. But only if the ZZ part is set up backwards, with the button pointing out. When it is set up the normal way, button inwards, it just sits there when you pull the tail. It doesn't move.

Used a Dremel to flex out the axles. Hammered out the last pieces.

 

Needed

One bolt Inbus 5 mm wide and the first 3 cm unthreaded.

Two bronze washers.

One regular nut. File small tips of the nut tips so it fits inside the HC sideplate.

One locking nut.

 

Assembly

Stick the bolt into the first HC sideplate. The head of the Inbus bolt fits snug into the HC sideplate. Than a washer, the ZZ unit, the second washer and the last HC sideplate.

Than you take the modified nut. Thread it on the bolt and tighten with an Inbus tool.

To top it off you end with the locking nut.

 

Climb safe and remember. The devise is modified by yourself! As are your self spliced hitches.

Couldn't help it but I had to hang in our little Acer in the backyard.

I turned the rope in the Hitchzag so the little lever is on the back. This tends better.

The rope is in one straight line and feeds much better in both directions.

Really like this idea. How long before dmm see this and release an exact replica of the one pictured above?

I really hope soon. This setup works so much smoother than the sharp an not lined up Petzl setup.

BTW, I turned the Hitchzag the other way around. This way the lever on top is pointing out and is there no sharp bend where the rope goes over the pulley.
