Possible bad news for top handle saw users

So is it safer to take a conventional rear handled saw up a tree to use in place of a topper?

Wonder if my 009 Stihl will be classed as a topper or rear handle -it is somewhere in between:001_rolleyes::lol:

The two stroke laws are getting really silly - a 737 can take onboard 20,000 litres of fuel and burn the lot on a long flight and the big nobs are looking at a small number of chainsaws running for a small period of time - the world is an ass IMO, someone needs to look at the bigger picture rather than hammering the easy targets!

i used to sub to a local tree surgery company steve, who were local to me and they did not own 1 top handle saw? all climbing work was done with the rear handle ms200 with no problems:001_huh:

There is a minimum distance that goes from the front handle to the back with the throttle... Top handles break this distance hence why dealers can only sell top handled saws to people with the correct certification.

No offence Steve as I know you do a good trade in top handled saws and you know there worth because many people can't walk in to a dealer and buy a 201... That was the deal stihl and husky set with hse or who ever makes the regs to continue there production and development of top handled saws... The fact you can buy one on eBay with no certs undermines this....so really if they want to continue then IMO there should be a ban ... I have seen and know of so many people who have had injury's with them who have no certs and it does not help the cause of hse that have been trying to ban them for as long as I can remember.

I recon daves right!!

It will be a ban of sale the eu have wanted to do this for years, you can not use a top handle on site on the ground...of course people do , but the way things are going with having to write a risk assessment for getting out of bed it may happen..

I had already brought the saw when I was told this Dave !
