Deffo buy one, DdRT hitch climber & pantin combo is a winner. Well worth the money, one of may favorite little gadgets. The energy you'll save in the long haul is unmeasurable, a lifesaver when you're knackered. And if you ever do SRT stuff then you can put it to use there. Probably the best £40-something I've ever spent. If you use a pulley saver then that would be even more of a reason to get one.

I thought my knee was going to explode on a long haul up. :)

And it will if you keep one-legging it on anything but short ascents. It is much better to share the workload with either a hand or knee ascender that has a foot strap for the other leg. If that is more gear than you want to deal with, at least place your other foot over the Pantin and other foot and push with both legs as you would in foot-locking.

Indeed or have a right and left and try to alternate, as its not only your knee that will suffer also your back long term. Hence why I do not use mine in the tree, only for ascent with a foot loop in a suitable single line set-up. Once in the canopy maybe on rare occasions if I can have one foot on the stem, if I'm hanging free I find foot locking more comfortable in a doubled line system, paradoxically I find foot locking to ascend very bad for me and a cool hardy pursuit for anything other than competition climbing.
