Nice work Mike.

Many replacement trees along the avenue?

The girths don't look particularly big for 200 year old Ash.

Guess they are subject to light and cold affected small annual growth rings.

.

Some Birch and a couple of Oaks had been planted in the past. Also an Elm.

A few of the Trees were dead or dying and will be replaced with Ash.

The trees were quite small for their age, your right, the cold and limited light has ment a hard life for them. The growth rings on some of the dead tops we removed were tight as could be.

Were the climbers Norwegians? How many days and people did it take?

Looks like a nice job but a bit cold and slippery.

Yes,seven of the climbers are Norwegian.I was the token foreigner.

Took three and a half days.Pretty manic but the trees wern't all that big and often you could swing from one to another and not all required extensive deadwooding.

About half of the Trees were on a path up to a Colledge, the few Specimens that were of the size you'd expect from a 200year old Ash were more sheltered and up by the main house.Unfortunatly these Trees were in a bad state and after removing Hazard limbs, they are to be felled.

was it hard getting the spikes in with the temperature so low, lol

good job mate, i bet your hands were freezing

No not at all,I used my "Pruning Spikes",they have ultra fine cylindrical Spurs.

Looks just like insect damage from a distance.:001_smile:

Yeah,my hands ache for a while when I start in that weather. But the more you use them the faster the pain goes away.

Quitting smoking would help too.
