Field repairs

Steering went on Landrover today, just gone over a motorway bridge at 50 mph, pulled over, turned steering and steering just went light, main drop arm ball joint snapped. Doesn't bear thinking about what would have happened if it had gone a few seconds earlier. It was put on new last year, just goes to prove, buy cheap but twice.

Anyhow, 3 minutes an a 600mm sling got me home

That's the thing Stevie, I checked it last week for its mot this Thursday, it was a new one I put on last year )-:

I would think about contacting the manufacturer of the balljoint about that,maybe send them the failed part.

I have a new rubber boot ready to put on because the original has cracked badly ( which made me think it was cheap crap to start) but the actual joint seemed fine, no play. The thread has snapped completely off, which they will say it has been over tightened. It hasn't because I love my snap on torque wrench so much I virtually sleep with it, I torque everything, if I could torque my own nuts I would (-:

The beauty of having a landrover as an arb truck is less than 1 hour and its back on the road, job done.
