My dad had the tax people on his case for a £8000 tax bill when he worked for the UN . He got a forensic money specialist to talk with Geneva and go thro all the paper work , it cost him £800 for a few hrs work. It was proved he had paid the tax and the tax people where wrong, he could also get his money back but the money specialist told him not to bother as it will cost him more than he's paid as they will drag it out.

my IPI is £19 a month, and will pay out 500 a month, just enough to keep the wolves from the door, as stephen says, you cant afford not to have it

might cover some peoples mortgages but i dont know anyone who could survive on it, i think most people with a mortgage would need a min of £1000 cover, so the £19 isnt realistic for most:001_smile:

would you risk your home for £6400? as for reasonableness of tax office please read Ian Leaches reply #42:001_smile:

This has nothing to do with what I would do or what you would do.

It's what will happen to people who will NOT pay their tax bill, people who will loose their home if they don't pay or are unable to pay.

I rang them last year as I was struggling to pay what i owed, they point blank refused to give me a payment plan and one time when I rang to check they had had a payment as it hadnt been credited on my tax statement I got a half hour lecture concluding with asking me how much my van was worth, pointe dout if I sold my van they would'nt be getting the rest of the money as I wouldnt be able to work, worst of it all was my accountant told me I would get the tax back as I had made a loss the year after and then told me I wouldnt get it after all and charged me £600 for the privilege, needless to say looking for a new accountant for this year :sneaky2:

The tax office was not reasonable they were demanding it with no help they where right and my dad was wrong, it's only because he keeps financial records and knew what help he needed it was sorted. Anybody who doesn't there stuffed.
