swallows

i know one swallow does not make a summer but saw our first one today. normally have a couple of pairs turn up. so looks as if this is the first of the two pair that turn up. and early this year fingers crossed good summer. i know Matt has already had the house martins. is the winter of discontent poor yoreth over.

i do hope so not a nice winter. some day been so cold. nearly had frostbite one day hands so cold. :argh::thumpdown:

We have a few around. April 13th is the average date for arrival here so they're about on time. Summer is never truly on its way until the swifts arrive on the high warm southerlies in May and the end is signalled when they leave in August. One day they'll be high and screeching and the next day they're gone leaving the youngsters behind. Always a sad day in my book when they leave.

love swifts old house had them such a joy to watch them as it got dusk screaming around the houses and as you say so sad when they leave at the end of august. still its spring so look forward to see our summer visitors. and by by winter keep away for the next 9 months:001_tt2:

I'm always looking for signs like this that summers on its way to re establish my recently faltering optimism in the weather. Its 20 degrees here today and the parks are busy.

Had to get up at 4.30 yesterday morning and when I left the dawn chorus was in full swing which made getting up at that time of morning that much more pleasant.:thumbup1:

I agree, we've had swallows here for a couple of weeks, the swifts are amongst the most thrilling birds we have and yet so many people cannot distinguish them from Martins and Swallows.
