1-2k overpriced.

 

For example:

 

LDV Convoy Double Cab Tipper Truck NO VAT DIESEL MANUAL 2005/55 | eBay

 

I love my Convoy. I disagree with the previous poster regarding rust. The underside is fine, all sealed well. And they don't rust on the panels nearly as much as a Transit! As said, much better value for money than Transit.

 

55 plate will be a Duratorque 2.4 with dual mass flywheel. Can be expensive when it's new clutch time. Otherwise good pullers.

 

Don't be scared of an earlier model- I paid £1300 for a year 2000 2.5 turbo dropside double cab (ex military, 110PS), and it's proved exceptional value for money. Been working on it today as it happens- most of the stuff you can do yourself no worries.

I wouldn't go fo a crew cab as they are overloaded with a team of 2 and a suite of saws before you even start putting chip and wood on the back.

 

Actually, the crew cab adds only around 150KG to the kerbweight- see this old thread: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/arb-trucks/8424-ldv-weights-measures.html

 

My XLWB crew cab ally dropside weighs in at 2360KG with a full rollcage of tools in the back section and half a tank of diesel.

 

TBH, any 3.5 ton is gonna end up overloaded if used for tree work. But that's another story!

Sounds expensive, but if its good to go for work as you want it then its ok ish.

 

Just check if its 70 or 90hp. Should say on the front of the engine block. 70's are slow, 90's not so bad, resonable quick in fact when empty.

 

Mine was a 52 plate with 33K miles 4 years ago £2600, but it was a flat bed and I had to put rollershutter box and tipper onto it. But its still going strong.

Had one, and thought it was great. Only probs were a sloppy gear box, apart from that all was fine. Got pulled by VOSA once with a full chip box on the back and was well within limits, even though the springs were say different

4k maybe bit high. But mileage is lowish. I aim for 3 years before becomes too expensive to mot and service.

 

Actually, 90k is on the high side for an LDV.

 

The other thing about them is that they have low geared diffs (and the XLWB varients even lower)! So no good at all for lots of motorway miles.

 

Of course, that makes them excellent for local blokes like me, driving around the back lanes loaded, often towing- loads of torque! :thumbup:
