i have never borrowed any money, no credit/ store cards/ loans etc, and prefer to try and work my way up.

i would love to have a nice tipper and chipper, that works and looks clean and tidy, but i will struggle on till i can afford a second hand van and chipper.

Noble words Mark, but don't you get it? say with a tipper and chipper you can do an extra 2 jobs a week earning yourself a 500 quid extra.

Finance for the 2 items 500 quid a month.

If you have the work, borrow the money.

Starting to get alot more tree work in, forever hiring a chipper in from a mates company, do I bite the bullet get a loan and buy a decent one? Or buy something for 3k ish and not have the worry of a loan to pay. I'm my thoughts the money I pay for hire would pay the loan. Any one know the finance on a 6inch chipper? And for how long?

From my personal experience of doing business with this person, I would highly recommend contacting and dealing with Keith Irvine Plant limited. rebuilds machines to a very good standard and his back up service in my opinion is excellent.

Based jct 18 M1. Near crick. There are highly likely to be other businesses that provide as good a service but just my opinion through personal experience. Often has range of machines available, manufacturer name dependant.

I'm with Daveindales on this one, if you know what you are looking for I would prefer to by used out right. Sure new would be nice but its always on the back burner that if got to pay the finance. If I were you I would keep hiring your mates and save a few more grand, when you have 5-6k you should be able to get yourself a decent used one.

IMO 3k is not enough, I'd sooner keep hiring then buy an old crank.

But if you keep hiring you can't save, finance means you get it now.

Finance is a tool, used wisely it will make you money, just like any tool :thumbup1:

Depends how often you will need it mark. No good a brand new chipper you are paying finance on, sitting on your drive for 3 or 4 days a week. Depending on how much your mate is charging you, hiring can be a good way to go until you really need one full time. There are some really good hire firms out there. A company I was using recently hired me a 220mx schliesing for £500 a month (£25 per working day). No need for insurance or maintenance costs. I could then also use their mewps and arb trucks etc at good rate too. At the time it suited my business model.

However, if you are going to need one at least 3-4 days a week, then i agree with others at looking to buy or hire purchase a new or ex demo one. Redwood offer a range of deals to suit different business models. Give a few company's a call and see what they can offer.

And dont get swayed by the shiny paintwork, buy with your head not your heart.
