If I may chuck me tanners worth into this most worthy, erudite debate.

I use the word "tanner"......sixpence,half a shilling,24 to a pound  purely to show me age....One who remembers fully what went on...not by hearsay, not by connection.

Its not what went on then (79 onwards) but what preceded it.

The staple base of the UK was Coal,Steel and heavy industry....the peak of the culmination of these three was a SHIP.....something we were particularly good at,aye and the manning of the same.

The demise of the famous three started coming about in the mid sixties........anybody here know what a general cargo ship is ???.....Containerisation was on its way.......Coupled with a blinkered attitude by both management and labour force we dug ourselves such a hole that everything and everybody had to fall into it.

Fast forward a decade...the UK had successfully managed to stab itself in both feet, give itself a heart attack and manage a brain haemorrage at the same time......no mean feat really.

Inevitably things had to change......Someone had to be at the forefront of that change......Well we all know who that was.....

From the mid sixties onwards we as a society started to live in an ever changing world, and that pace of change is even more relevant today.

So why the vitriol I ask myself...........She didn't bomb your Granny......"They" did mine...but I don't hold it against "Them" now.

Perhaps now as a society, and I refer to the ever changing world we need a focus......

I'll give you "Ying and Yang".....When Princess Di tragically died there was such an outpouring of public grief leading to flower tributes all over the show these days...The death of Mrs Thatcher,I would suggest is the Yang.....

Do these sort of events assauge our desire to love and to hate ????

If so......I think we all need to get back into the real world and get away from the soap opera mentality.

This is in no way meant to offend any member but purely my take on it,I've sat on me hands for long enough :001_smile:

BTW

Going back when :blushing: I'd happily free climb from top plates to inside funnel top......Climb a tree.....no chance...But love to see you people do it.

Respect for what you do .

No idea what all that means, but interesting post nevertheless.

when I was a baby, we lived in Cologne, in West Germany (my dad was stationed out there). Winston Churchill died and our landlord invited all his British tenants down for a celebratory drink...turns out he was ex-Waffen SS!.

I view the whole disrespect thing as a shining example of 'us and them' UK...some of you guys are 'them' to me...thats the way it is...and thats why Britain will never really ever be 'Great Britain' ever again....

Dead, not quite buried, left a legalese that some hate some ain't not to sure about & as far as I've read no one loves.

Still the lady has a family so imo all the haters should have grown some years ago & done something about the things they hate about the system when they hadn't quite had all of their civil (democratic) rights quietly erased & now bleat on about it...

Let her funeral pass by, stop costing us £ for the policing of it, as we are not paying for the rest of it as far as i'm aware.

People need to get over the fact that she was hated, (& she was loved). For example, my mother is her biggest fan, yet I hate her without reserve.

The modern style of government & populous control relies on the media dividing us, as cohesively, we would not allow them to get away with there selfish & egocentric goals.

Politicians, post Maggie all seem to be deficient in any form of compassion.

She was an old lady who was in politics. She's died. Anyone who is glad that she is dead is a moron. She wasn't Hitler, or Bin laden. She was a Prime Minister. Look at how many people are loosing their jobs right now. The country is on its knees. Ignorance.

her Legacy

Personally as a tax payer i am prepared to bequeath £1 of my taxes to see her get a proper send off. Pretty sure there are 9,999,999 more people who would too so bollox to those that say they don't want to pay.

She's was alive 30 years after resigning and there hasn't been half of the bile spewed over the years.
