My v6 chainsaw thread thingy.

Ok. Picked up the free quad today. Now I'm in two minds.

First it was a typo in the text, he said Honda but meant hondou. A Chinese copy of Honda, no problem just means parts are a LOT cheaper.

It's a 200cc four stroke, air cooled. Clutch activated gearbox, the quad is shaft driven so not sure what the rotation of the gearbox output is, this depends on what way the chain will spin, I hope it will go the right way, make life easy.

So the other way is keep bike as is and just rebuild it, try and get it road legal, this will require more work.....

If it was me, I'd look at getting the quad back togethr, sell it and buy a different engine. Am sure the quad engine would be fun to make work but chances are it'll be very hevy in comparison to it's power. I'd be surprised if theres much more than 15/16hp at the crank when new. Even tweaked and fettled, 20hp's a lot for a 200cc 4 stroke bike engine.

Well that's the other thing. The bloke who's quad it was works on motocross bikes, he has a chainsaw he wants me to fix, its a mcrapock but I mentioned what I'm looking at doing and he is going to have a look around to see what he has.

He was very interested in what I'm doing aswell and even toyed with the idea himself, but knowing nothing about chainsaws he didn't get very far. Could be a perfect opportunity here.

Sadly this has all been done before.

Why copy the Americans?V8 Chainsaws,V6 Chainsaws,Rotax engined Saws.

Do something different, your a Brit and you have a domestic V12 fuel injected power plant available from some dodgy blokes old XJS.Worlds first V12 Chainsaw.

Or bolt a Bar and Chain to a quad engine.

Up to you....

One major problem with a v12, have to be able to lift it without a machine on it.

Went and watched the Stihl Timbersports yesterday for the Midwest qualifier.

Not the videos from yesterday but some of the same folks.
