First aid cert question...

I was just wondering if my first aid cert I have would still be valid in the eyes of the HSE and employers?

I did the 4/5 day advanced course about 10 years ago! I know it was advised to do a refresher every 3 years, but not sure if that was a must or just a recommendation :confused1:

Anyway I don't actually have a copy or my cert as proof any-more but if it is still recognised. I was going to see about obtaining a copy if possible from the training provider.

I would say NO, you are not currently qualified as a first aider.

A lot changes in ten years, the way first aid is carried out, improvements in treatment etc.

As a first aider i have to do a refresher every three years to keep up to date and its suprising how many little things you forget, attending regular refresher courses gives you confidence that you would be able to cope should something untoward happen.

Just do the three day course its worth it. you never know when you might need it, even for your own family.

hope you wont have to use it. :001_smile:

Thanks for that.

I had a feeling that would be the case but thought I'd ask the question anyway to make sure.

Every 3 years and HSE recommend annual refreshers (prob 'mid-term' 18mths will suffice.)

REMEMBER one-day 'EMERGENCY FAW' will suffice, generally (and as per your FA 'needs' assessment :confused1:), provided it is 'relevant', i.e use an industry specifc training provider.

Cheers..

Paul

According to a St Johns sales person you also need a new 4 day course if you cant produce your current FAW certificate. I was in the process of booking a refresher, and was asked for the cert, and when I said My old employer still had it, BUT I had the card with all the pertinent details on it, I was told I had to pay up for the full course again.
