Its a defender 90 im after. Ok ok, looks like I'll be pushing the budjet up a bit then!!

Question still stands at the common problems please?

Also id be interested to hear from people interested in selling. Thanks

For a grand you are going to get a basket case. The last defender 90 that went through my hands was more patches than chassis and drew £1700.00

In your budget the common problems will be, all of it, there could be anything at all wrong with it but I can guarantee you will need a mig welder.

The other wear parts in no particular order are king pins, steering ball joints, gearbox synchro on 1&2 leaky evrything, suspension bushes all over, electrics full of "Botch locks" where every owner has added spot lights and suchlike.

On a budget, then go Jap.

You don't say if you want a van or a pickup? If its a van your after...

You'll get a Fourtrack in good nick for 2k if you look hard. Pajero even cheaper. I'm running a 2.5 Pajero (H reg) I picked up with 9 months test for £600. Chassis is undersealed and not a single bit of rust. Couldn't believe my eyes. Bodywork all fine with no rust too (may be under the flared wheel arch extenders but I suspect not)

All good touch wood (been 5 months), and I can scrap it with the allys seperate for £300. If I could be arsed to break it I'd get my money back no probs.

Had I spend even 2k on a Land Rover I can guarantee I would have had to tow it home by now.

Don't do it. Seriously.

Well according to the reported outcome of that thread he didn't have to sell his Navara to pay up.

yup true. Just want to get moved on from navara as they are expensive to fix. I have a mate who know defenders well, so if I get any problems we would work on it together with his know how. I simply asked on here because I wanted to hear of common problems that others have come across.

Biggest problem with a defender would be the defender fairies making it vanish in the night

Get a tracker and as many other security devices as you can when you do find one for your budget otherwise you will spend a fortune on it only for some scum to relieve you of it one night

yeah cheers, I guess it would be instant currency to some. I have the advantage of having a 100m2 lock up that I would keep it in. :)
