Does every load handler do this to straddle the wheel arches? or is there another way so the logs etc dont get stuck behind them?

I don't get many actually stuck . It does leave a few behind but not a big deal just pull em out with the rake thingy .

I was leaving a lot behind especially if i was parked on a downward slope, now i might get a couple left behind. Instead of a level load i now do a well heaped load to compensate for the area loss.

Ours is fitted on a trailer so no problems with wheel arches but if on a down slope the sheet would tend to get pulled out from underneath leaving some behind. Also the sheet is quite a bit narrower than the trailer so easy to leave logs behind. Now when I am loading I pull quite a length of sheet through hanging over the front of the trailer then load some logs onto the front then fold the flap back over with more logs on top of the flap and keep filling. This creates a bung of logs that seems to sweep the trailer out. It might be worth having a go on a pickup to see if it works.

I get a lot left behind in my Hilux.

 

I have an Ifor canopy on mine so it does involve a quick jump in the back to throw the rest out but the load is still off in a flash compared to previously.

 

How much can you can on yours now with the sides as they are?

Slope makes a big difference for all materials, so much so that I sometimes put the front wheels up on a set of Halfords wheel ramps.

I can get out about 90% of logs, just chuck the rest out
