This question came up a while back during my training for cs30/31. After a few days, and several calls around to other assessors and verifiers, it was decided the EN number on the aerial lids exceeded that on the ground helmet and therefore it was deemed fine to use an aerial lid with chin strap on the ground. Since that day i've always gone by that.

load of boll****ks:sneaky2:

Based on what?:confused1:

so i have been wareing a peztl working up a tree then when i get to the ground i have to undo the chin stap to continue to use it on the ground!!!

To comply with regulation, yes.

you can use petzl hemits for ground work, end of. some people even use them underground when doing rescues!

Even though they are underground, they can still be working at height.

as a self employed operator I have made the decision to keep wearing my warm and comfy wooly hat when on the ground, if a branch big enough to warant a safety helmet falls, your dead anyway cos itll break your neck, and as for bumping into things, I learned not to do that when I was about 2years old, a good set of ear defenders and some sutible eye protection does it for me

i bought a petzl helmet not so long ago as they where more comfortable to wear and had the chin strap. unlike the normal helmets. whilst in local arb shop meet with a trainer to find my helmet is not for groundwork but just for aloft and so would not be covered on my insurance if something fell down. on the box it say nothing only arboriculture helmet read the small print says only for climbing.

bit miffed as it was not that cheap to buy. and only helmets for groundwork are those horrible ones like builders hats which after a day wearing your head is sweating it rubs on your head. only one i found that had a chin strap is £160 and meets with ce guidelines for working on ground. and is good to wear

HI MATE theres a chap here that make very nice hats i will say is BOB your man for hats :thumbup1:jon
