I thought that cranes are rated at tonnes/metre, what the superstructure can safely handle. A 1000 tonner is never going to get 1000 tonnes 1 metre from its centre but 100 tonnes at 10 metres is do-able:001_smile:

One simple chart I found. It states this crane arm can lift 24t at 4m out but go out 12m it drops to 6.5t.

 

This crane does look bigger but it shows how much drop in weight it takes.

 

Just remember theses things when you are on a crane job.

used to live on a boat 400M down the cannal from the lock you can see in the background. there's no way that anything that big should have gone down that part of the tow path. there is no edge pileing(?) along there.

We recently had a 60 tonne crane, when the driver set up he told us what he could lift at the point we could get the hook to.

 

His maximum lift was 9 tonne, we took about 3 at a time.
