How long did you season the timber before milling and cabinet making? Great piece of furniture.

Common misconception - you mill the timber when it is as green as possible and then dry it after. Rule of thumb is a year per inch of timber, though in practice it's quicker in a barn with good air flow.

the above comments are correct,,,its having the forsight into making things,,that makes life easy, ive bought two lots of lovely elm from big J ,whilst i was busy,(sept-dec),selling logs, and bringing money in,I re-invested it ,into stunning green elm,to turn into, coffee tables etc,,,,,might seem like 2 yrs is a wait,,but in the mean time I`m making stuff from wood I`ve already milled two yrs ago,,,certain things I make are great air dried,,others need longer or kiln dried,,,

Thanks for the comment, I mill the timber as soon as I can, stack it, band it and like the other posts mentioned I let it dry a year for each inch in thickness. I tend to take the wood into the work shop for a couple of weeks before planning to size. Trouble is I don't get much time to make much lately!
