Just use chain oil.

You would need to add a tackifier like STP to make it work. Other than that I see no real issues using new oil.

But for as little as you go through is it worth the hassle?

True is it worth the hassle etc i was just worried was i wrong in using free motor oil the enviromentle damage and my cost buying chain oil against a can of stp and on another note if stp makes oil tacky how can that be any good as a engine oil additive ??? glooping up your oil not good"" its all very confusing and conflicting the answers i mean :confused1::confused1:

I'm really going to disagree with the use of motor oil. It will do nothing to help your pump in your saw. Plus the complications of it being not tacky enough to stick to the chain long enough to do its job....

There have been many questions over using other oils in saws and all have the same answer.

Can't you just sell a few litres of the motor oil so you can buy chain oil. I'm sure a few people would buy it?

Will be fine, lots do it without problems, I personally haven't bought chain oil in a long time, just turn the oiler up if needed. Remember boys getting waste oil free, messy.
