Anbody know Where to get a stone sledge?

Hi Guys,

Does anybody know or has seen a stone sledge?

I'll explain what I mean.

 

Its basically a large sledge pulled behind a tractor that lays stone at a defined depth and levels it. You fill it up with a trailer and keep going like that.

 

I used one a good few years ago but I cant remember who built it.

 

Any Idea's?

Sounds like a good idea. Work like a grader, maybe thats the word you need? I assume its for gravel yard or area type use. If its pebble freeflowing gravel you could just tie tailgate shut tight with rope then when you tip it will stretch rope and flow in a controlled manner

we use the trailer tailboard now but have got 3km of 20mm-dust to lay.

get an old lorry chassis, just need the two rails, fasten some chains to it , tow around and keep topping up with loader.

I think they where intented originally for tarmac. They are hooked on to the tipping bar of a lorry so it could be tipped in too and pulled by the one vehicle whilst leveling at the same time.

I think you're after a 'Box Grader' or a 'Box Blade' as they are sometimes known. Available in a multitude of configurations - mounted, trailed, front mounted, with/without ripper legs, single or multiple internal bars...

 

Various people make them, including Simba, but you might be as well just making one.

I saw one working a long time ago hooked to the back of a dump trailer with a chain each side and pulled by a tractor but it was a two man job to use succesfully,did a nice job though with recycled crushed hardcore on farm road though.
