  2. I have spent a lot of time in the light Volvo's and I would highly recommend them. They are pretty comfortable even for me at 6'4". The hydraulics are smooth, even on the 1.5t.

Consisting of 2345 hectares (approximately 9 square miles) the Borough contains a diverse range of landscapes including three town centres, residential areas, two green wedges, two country parks together with areas of open countryside encompassing the Grand Union Canal and the River Sence. 240 Tree Preservation Orders and 10 conservation areas are currently in place and protect the trees in the Borough. The Council is looking for a full time professional officer to this newly formed position. You will work across three council services and take the lead on our proactive tree survey including surveying, recording and management of the Council tree stock within parks, open spaces and housing areas. You will be required to monitor the quality and timing of works issued to and undertaken by the Council’s contractors as well as deal with tree work applications, notifications and planning consultations. To be successful you will have a relevant qualification with experience in tree management and protection. You will be confident and conversant with all aspects of arboriculture including tree biology, hazard assessment and tree protection legislation. A working knowledge of best practice in tree surgery work will be coupled with good IT, communication and negotiation skills. Previous local authority experience is desirable but not essential. This role will see you come into contact with members of the public, consultants, volunteers, planners and councillors as well as other sections of the Council so excellent communications and presentation skills are a must. You would need to be careful, if the farmer is planning to use the green "stuff" (Dont use waste as the EA will get interrested) you bring back as compast for the land then not a problem, if you treat the compost in anyway then it is time to think about licences and planning. PM if you want EA stuff. Otherwise keep your head down dont mention anything.

  6. You can get a attachment that turns hydraulic brakes to air brakes for around £450 then take the offer up above for the trailer. The converter is what I have fitted it makes it so that I can connect up to fast tow trailers without the need to spend lots on buying a tractor with air brakes.

  15. Try A V Squires on 01636 812227 they hire out machines dont know if they have a grapple but would certainly help and they do self or operated plant hire. They are pretty good.
  16. Forestry commission bale brash from big thining and final fell sites. It goes straight to the biomass power stations. You could sell them I suppose to the power stations all you have to do is find space to store them till you have a lorry load. Thinking about it you would nearly have an artic load with one. As my dad would say there is money in waste... Well words to that affect.

    Bushcraft

    Don't know if anybody would be interrested, this is just of Junction 21 of M1. You are being invited to learn some fundamental bushcraft skills this summer at Brocks Hill Country Park in Oadby. Silverback Bushcraft, one of the leading regional training companies, are joining Oadby and Wigston Borough Council to run a series of introductory sessions, with the first on Sunday 27th July working in woodlands at the top of the Country Park. Bushcraft is all about learning to use the natural resources we all have around us to thrive in the great outdoors. Working with an expert tutor the day long session will cover build a shelter including useful knots, water purification and safe knife use. The course goes from the basics of fire lighting to wilderness cooking around a camp fire to many other bushcraft topics such as tree identification, and awareness of the wild plants around the site. The event will include tips on survival and living with nature and is designed for beginners to learn the basic art of bushcraft. Booking is essential for the event, as places are limited. The price £50, will include a full day’s professional tuition, refreshments and lunch. The session starts at 10:30 a.m. and will finish at 4:00pm.   18. Just asked the apprentice to read it and then show me how to fell a tree. His reply was did somebody forget to engage brain before typing. He did also say why did you bother sending me on an NPTC courses when I could have had taining from HSS. Guess who just had to buy the bacon cobs.

Hi Eddt, I started off contracting then was taken on full time, I would say speak to the legal or finance team for a copy of the insurance policy, if they dont want to show you the policy as your a contractor then get it in writing that the clause within there policy covers volunteers as employees or are listed within the policy. covers your back.
  20. Hi Karl, Try Trac at Chesterfield they speacilise in rail plant hire I know they have a Valtra with a chipper that can work on and off rails. it would meet Network rails spec.   21. Hi Monkeybusiness, EA use Ulrich winches but they normally have an extra hydraulic pump and tank fitted to the front as the 10t ones need a large flow rate. the 15t ones are the same. I worked for the EA and use to drive them. They would pull like a train and were great to work with. we had plasma rope on the one I ran. made light work but we worked on three jobs and then had to replace the rope. £1500 a pop.
