I was doing all the paperwork on a private job, applied for the TPO etc.

The TO went the property, 5 trees to reduce and 3 the fell, while there (the TO) spent most of the visit trying to steer my client towards another local private contractor who works fulltime for the council.

now tell me folks.....why would someone do that? unless there was money involved...:confused1:

If I was you I would make a written complaint to the head of planning or Chief Executive, stating that if this happens again you will sue the council for loss of earnings!

Contact the department head and ask for an explanation, if you can prove it.

I spoke directly to the TO, prior to knowing the the full details of what happened, I pushed my skills in front of the others from a science point.

When the TO said what they did, they also put a defence in place.

If anybody has ever challenged a council employee, will know the score, one minute your dealing with the individual....the next you have the might of the whole council to deal with.

Let sleeping dogs lie. :)

I sent out £15k of work last week and will be doing about the same in a few more weeks,

I wouldn't turn my nose up at it especially in these hard times.

But that means nothing, what if it costs £16k to do???

My saw dealer related to me a LA staff member making almost the identical statement to him, they were buying £12K of gear and were asking for even more discount, "because it was £12K!!!!", yes but he was making under £500 on the whole deal and had to prep all the gear and deliver it!!!

Turn over is vanity, profit is reality.

The older you get the more you get to realise that statement is so wise.

It's almost worth making a company slogan.

I will say though that turnover often opens doors which were previously closed and it also makes you think big which can lead to big contracts and big bucks. Just make sure you focus on the profit. and of course your sanity:001_smile:

A lot of what I hear about this situation I cannot 100% say is true as I have not heard it direct. I have heard the contract says they can't sub out the work. I guess it's just one of those things. If I was offered a contract on another county I would think twice as with the amount of travel etc then how can I be competitive? Good luck to them. Just for the record I am nothing to do with any company's involved and I did not and would not tender for the contract I am purely am observer:)
