hello yes there is a douglas in heywood wood at eggesford it was planted circa 1840 near the old eggesford manor house there are loads of footpaths and parking only half a mile from the tree

So yesterday we visited Hatfield, Big thanks to Joe for arranging it and was good to meet Mr Bowen and have a go on the hitch hiker.

 

The large oak measured 95ft and had a huge burr on it, possibly the biggest ive ever seen. We had a little drive about the site and visited the Doodle Oak which was huge!! I climbed the coppiced stem that remains to get a couple of pics. We then found a nice pine to have a play in and dan went down the "death slide" Also we saw the biggest black walnut ive ever seen too.
