a crane virgin

got my first crane job coming up and im a bit nervous to be honest, any words of wisdom from all you older and wiser than i?

 

i got 4 big monterey pines over a road to dismantle.

 

bit unsure of the procedure for for stroping sections, strop ratings, connecting to crane, step cuts or felling cuts? section weight estimating?

err...

if you need to know basic stuff like that, you need to get in someone experienced and learn from how they do it.

crane work is like some other treework operations - someone who knows what their doing will make it look easy, but if you DONT know or understand the extra forces involved, the risk of damage or injury is exponentionaly greater.

I agree...you should at least have someone on site who has some experience, imo.

get someone with experience in, never use felling cuts as this will add extra swing to the removed limb, the crane is a lifting device not a winch.

With cypress the ends of each limb will be considerably heavier, so you will need to put the slings/chains toward the end. sounds like you got alot of climbing to do even with a crane on site.
