whats the shelf life of the kit

Hi Johny, To answer your question about shelf life -

At the very best the consumables have 3 years, the compression bandages have 5 years, we try our very best to offer the very best dates we can but there will be a few months form making the kits to end user.

The PLB has a battery life of 6 years.

Also, many of the products do not have a shelf life really like the tourniquet, tweezers, splint, shears etc. Refilling in 3 years is equal to a normal FA kit cost assuming you don't use the stuff...But it has been designed to be used not just for the ticking of boxes :)

I hope to answer a few of the other questions soon folks, bare with us

Happy new year to you all and all the best for 2013

Greig

  • 2 months later...

Used mine today, a lad onsite sliced his finger, nearly the whole tip of his index finger in half, right through the nail at an angle!!

It was flowing like a burst drain.

The spray congealer stopped it straight away, another spray with the cleaner, then it was a wee bandage and wrapped up with the sticky stuff!

I know this is an expensive bit of kit, and some prefer an ice cream box full of stuff.

But this was a muddy site, I could just sit it down, open it up and everything was just there.

The second the lad saw the box he felt better, it looked like I knew what I was doing lol

Job done and off to A and E!

What was the A and E's reaction to the spray congealer? As some folk are saying celeox shouldn't be used?

Yep. The tornique is only a very last resort. If all else fails. They should only be applied for max 15 mins before being released and then reapplied.

A max of 4 bandages are applied before using a pressure point. After this if it all fails then the tornique is to be used...

Yep. Last time I updated 1st Aid cert, tourniquet were touched on and above info given. Especially the 15min., release and retighten. If there's more than one person attending the casualty, assign one person to control of blood loss.

We've had these kits now for some time, but never had to use them thankfully.

Greig came and did a days training for us a few weeks ago, it was great. He went through how to use the kit properly, and then first aid in the tree and airial rescue/self rescue. I've been climbing 20 years and that was one of the best training days I've done. The quallity of the arb aid kit bandages etc is so much better than a normal first aid kit.
