Ok so what was so wrong with his cutting?????

 

He is 72, I think he looked relaxed and confident.

 

I'm not sure the tree did not go just where he wanted.

Well the guys either totally incompetent and somehow led a charmed life for the last 50 years having never learnt how to fell a tree.

 

Or

 

An elderly and experienced forester with 50 years of time proven timber cutting skills using old equipment and methods and from an age when PPE wasn't worn. Yet still doing a good safe job.

 

Ill go with the latter.

There were lots Dave not just PPE but I don't want to go into detail and never wanted to go into detail. I made one comment with a smiley and then entered into a conversation with the guy about splitters, that's as far as I wanted to ridicule.

 

If it helps he lined up his gob cuts perfectly.

i am looking at it from the tree cutting perspective, not its an old guy or its out in a field.

good on the old boy for still getting stuck in, my old man is the same and if he is going to pop his cloggs i hope its while cutting up some monster widblown beech tree wearing his jeans and wellies.

(video 1 ) Basically, if the objective was to knock over that tree and chop it up for firewood, then SUCCESS. If the objective was fell that tree using current standards of health and safety under scrutiny of an external examiner, then im afraid; FAILED. BIG TIME.

I agree with dean, i also didnt find his first comment critisising in a bad way, it was clear understandable point.... yeah it was not a normal way to fall the tree, the winch would have been put under tension even though that winch could handle it, i understand why it was incorect.

 

I really didnt think this disscusion would go this far,
