Need Your Advise guys...

Hey everyone,

 

im looking at a new harness for christmas, now i have heard so many good things about the skylotec....but not had a chance to use one, are they like a petzl harness? because i cant work with them atall, they seem to give me a really bad back.....from what i hear and have seen from pictures the skylotec buts the climbers weight more on the legs and more central, over having the pressure on your pelvic/lower back area?

 

what are your guys thoughts and opinions?

Go for it mate the skylotec is the best harness out there IMO and I've used a few, there nothing like a pretzl very comfy and versatile, loads freedom and tons of security

IMO the Skylotec is the worst harness available.

But take no notice of me because harness choice is all about comfort. It's a totally personal thing and you need to find the comfiest one for you 👍.

There is no such thing as the universally "best harness". Quite a few are bad (badly designed, badly built), but different climbers with different body size and shape, climbing technique, personal preferences etc will have different preferences.

 

Go to a well assorted reseller and try out a variety of harnesses, and choose the one that feels the most confortable, and that will hold the kit you need. There is a LOT of difference in the number and size of tool-loops. Also, if you are using Petzl CARITOOL, you should double check if it can easily be clipped onto the harness of your choice.

WEAVER is cheap...bombproof and will last for years...I had the pleasure of a climb in a TREEMOTION last week for the first time and it will be my new 9 to 5 harness.it is a fine peice of engineering:thumbup1: However i will always use my AUSTRIA 2 for pleasure.....it,s just So light:001_smile:

Started out with a Weaver which as said is a bombproof old-school harness. Then went to the Petzl sequoia which is light and flexible and great for the sort of climbing that pruning requires, but I didn't find it very comfortable for hanging in or gaff work. Last Xmas I got a Treemotion and it really lives up to the hype in my opinion. Its great for balance stuff and so damn comfy on a pole too. Worth the wee bit extra cash imo but you really gotta go and try a few different ones out. Anyhoo, have fun with the new toys!

Treemotion I like for nearly all of my work but I have to say that I prefer the Skylotec if I'm lugging a bigger saw around the tree. Just seems to hold up better and doesn't pull so much.
