Its someone try to stick their fingers in your eyes during the game, don't happen a lot, some times by accident some not. Tv cameras normally pick up any foul play.

 

Irish and French have been caught on camera gouging McCaw in the last year amongst other actions. Its a blight on the game.

He just players off side most of the time, but England played the same way the other week, you need to be quick to the break down. Play to the limit of the laws, play a rush defence get in their face and you will beat most. McCaw has a face like a welders bench thanks to his commitment at the break down, full of scar tissue, but you can't knock his work ethic.

Whereas the squeaky clean Kiwi's would rather king-hit a player off the ball, a la Andrew Hore.

I agree, gouging is a reprehensible act, but the Kiwi's are as guilty of thuggery as any other team, making their continual whining about the treatment meted out to 'Saint' Rutchie McCaw highly amusing.

Oh, and regarding chavball , sorry, soccer being more popular than rugby - yeh, course it is. It's easy to play, simple to follow and requires minimum effort to understand. Rather like comparing draughts to chess, or saying more people read 'The Sun' than 'The Times'.

Stopped the Welsh dirty tactics though (not that I agree with knocking the guy out) and laid down a foundation. The kiwis had to put up with all kinds of dirty tactics especially from the French, in the past and didn't retaliate, much to their cost. I found it most amusing reading of how the All Blacks always reverted to thuggery and the list of examples (in a British paper) yet the English were apparently squeaky clean.

 

Agreed with the rules though. Football is pretty simple to understand compared to trying to work out rucks, mauls and what the hell is going on in the scrum.

 

And one other thing people often don't get is the fact that it isn't the All Blacks, coaching staff etc that talk themselves up its always the stupid, dumb ass kiwi print and tv media. Even the public called for the coach's head after the loss to England. Personally I thought it was an exceptional display of running rugby from the Poms. They just need to repeat it on a regular basis.
