... I have the same issue with the uni because it doesn't have a pulley either...

 

Both the Uni and the HH work really well on a tether, which completely eliminates the need to slack tend.

Yes. Just take some time to figure out what length works best for you. It needs to be long enough for a worthwhile advancement stroke while still being able to reach the hitch, or Uni, at odd angles.

No, not at all. In fact I find it quite familiar and comfortable as that is the method I have used for most of my climbing career. Think tail tied hitch.

Ok I understand what you mean but I can't get my head around any advantage on SRT.

On DRT you're pulling the rope down through the hitch but on SRT surely it means holding your weight on one arm again while you advance the hitch.

This is an old photo and I do things differently now but it should give you an idea of what I am talking about. Like I said, this works just like a hand ascender, and we all know how well they work on SRT. The difference is these tools can also go down and will not hurt the rope.
