jensen A521 hydraulic problems

my chipper developed a fault today where the feed rollers wont engage in either direction. i dropped a hose off the motor to see that it has flow and it quickly filled the bucket with hydraulic fluid. i then removed the motor to run it seperately from the rollers and although the drive gear on the motor shaft turned, you are able to stop it revolving by hand.

any ideas what would cause this?? filter and hydro fluid are clean, no sediment/crap in the filter housing at all.

chipper was running fine on friday without problems and the this fault developed whilst standing over the weekend:thumbdown:

You have oil going back to tank when it shouldn’t. It could be a pressure relief valve or the diverter valve (solenoid valve) on the “no stress” system. Check those first.

either that or a knackered motor bypassing oil.

When I had that problem with my Schlesinger (sp) it was the spool block, new one from Schlesinger was £550+VAT, got a paten one for £150+VAT, little bit of fabrication, works perfect.

i just find it wierd how it suddenly happened, when i shut the machine down on friday it was and had been working fine without any problems. if the motor was on its way would it not show signs of detiorating before eventually packing up??

From the in feed control follow the bar that leads to the valve block. Jensen usually have the solenoid diverter and pressure relief incorporated into the valve. It will probably have a wire running to a black plug.

Look for loose plugs, broken wires, and make sure the PR valve screw is tight.

has some one been playing with roller speed adjuster on the valve block if its screwd in rollers wont turn

Talk to Redwood, they should be able to diagnose over the phone. If you can turn the motor by hand, it's more likely to be the either pump or motor. The blow off (PR) valve and solenoid valve are part of the hydraulic valve assembly on the right hand side of the infeed chute, but if either fail it is unlikely to have the same symptoms you seem to be experiencing.
