No I don't doubt you at all treequip, sorry it came across as that way. What I meant, with HSE reacting to accidents on the ground, I can't understand why anyone would use a top handle saw when its not necessary. Is it just people being lazy, or what?

So what would you do if you were in my shoes?

To be honest I'm a big believer in thing called "personal disposability" which seems to be some what out of fashion, mores the pity.

Tickets really are not difficult to achieve (expensive yes, difficult no) they are more about arse covering and ability IMHO.

The most skilled cutters I've worked with had no tickets.

The DIY barns have shelves full of chainsaws and they dont seem worried about it.

Keep calm and carry on

But sheds dont have toppers, and its toppers we are talking about, so the question still stands.

If you were a dealer would you ignore the instruction from the manufacturer and sell a topper without proof of training?

I think most dealers have common sense and can sus out if you're a pro or not as soon as they start speaking to you, if they're in doubt it's a nice policy to fall back on to decline a sale to you

But then the non pro will just climb with a non top handle....

Hurt themselves and when hse have a hissy fit over that they will then say that ground saws won't be able to sell without ticket...
