I’m only in this thread because I think Mat was getting treated a little harshly.

If it were a busted chainsaw thread you will get lots of folk trying to figure out a problem and having a guess even though they know that we have at least 3 members who fix saws for a living.

That's just my opinion, we have harmony restored now so be nice to keep it that way.

I also find the title amusing as Landrover and ‘Whine’ sit together well.

I did a top end rebuild on that landy in a field in Spain but don’t really know much about them.

The thing about forums is that all the members read them not only for the educational value but also the entertainment.

Many regular contributors suffer from 'itchy finger' and can't wait to offer advice or to criticise, as long as it is done with good intent then its not a problem. After all, it gives us something to read.

I agree that bad advice, even if well intentioned is no advice at all, but to be fair, it soon gets sorted out. In this case Matts advice was fully debated and subsequently dismissed, so in the end the post was usefull.

I did feel that he was treated a little to harshly and without due respect though, a few manners dont go amiss.

Just as a last thought from me. Check the diff oil levels. My old landy used to whine and one day the axle locked up on me. It's probably not your problem but while your under there checking oil levels on gearboxes check the diff oils. Is usually the one that gets missed.

I think this is the gearbox. Will be using an ashcroft one this time. This re-con box has been in one year and 12000 miles bit pissed off. Norfolk has quite a few landrover 'buffs' and specialists but when it comes to the crunch don't quite have it.

Bit unfair :001_smile:

I've had mine nearly 10 years and it has not let me down once, never broken down yet.

Landrovers only breakdown through bad maintainance

Yeah but I'm not an army trained engineer/mechanic with grease for blood mate :001_smile:

Yet you re build engines in spanish fields, quite a contdiction that?

I didn't say I'm not a man of many talents:001_smile:

You have a point though, I did the work myself to save money but paid an English Landy mechanic called Landy Andy in Orgiva (Alpuharras) to tell me what to do. It was amazing how much I did alone especially on the rebuild.
