a new neighbour moved in down the road and has a silver birch very close to his house and a surveyor has said he needs this tree reduced (30%)the worry is it will take up to much water and could cause damage to the house.

he has talked to me about it and i said i would ask you guys/gals for your thoughts

the tree is actually in the property next door and has a top on it allegedly.

its a fine looking silver birch

sorry for poor pics

Over here that tree was planted way to close in the first place, no excuse for such poor placement. Although I am not sure what affect the removal of the tree would have on the soil surrounding the tree, I would opt for total removal. Accident waiting to happen IMO.

Joke!

If the tree is TPO'd and belongs to a neighbour, I think there are a few hurdles to jump.

Soil type and age of both house and tree will also be key players here.
