Best before....

Anyone take much notice of 'best before' dates on food packaging?

I rediscovered a box of Shreddies in the cupboard bb April '04. I must have opened them in 2003 and they're still :001_tongue:

My son never bothers about dates...relying on sight and smell but my daughter panics about a week before it's up.

when i was about 18 (1992) i got a mini which was purchased off of an old woman... she rarely used the motor and it was a steal, low milage etc, no damage, allow wheels and in the glove box area a packet of fruit pastels from 1984. (so the use by date said). We ate them one day as we were on a munchie and they were unopened. 2 things surprised me (i) they tasted goooood and were still retty soft and chewy and (ii) the size of them, they were like digestive biscuits compared to the same sweets of the day!:001_tongue:

best before just means that its at its best till that date then after that its up to you! use by usually means there is a great risk of grandslamming and becoming ill! i go on smell and looks the missus by the date!

What about when you open say mint sauce and it says must be consumed within 3 days!!!!!!!!! i never go by that but my missus will. what a waste:scared1:

i can pretty much deduce from that post exactly why the fruit pastilles tasted so good and why they appeared to be so big!:001_smile:
