What a pilot!

After a 'double bird strike' this guy saves the lives of all passengers and crew by landing in the Hudson river, New York.

 

No engines and evidently no panic he guides his passengers onto the wings of the plane to await rescue.

Miraclous & Heroic, I would suggest.

 

There must be a myriad of things that could go wrong in ditching a plane in to water.

 

That pilot's nerve, temperament & skill must be truly amazing

It's all over the news here. Part of the reason it didn't sink was because it had something new, a "Ditch" feature that automatically sealed all openings to the outside. Amazing.

I heard that the skill in keeping the underwing jets at the correct angle to stop the plane catching a crab and tipping up nose first, was the key to the successful water landing.

My mrs was in NYC yesterday and saw it come down into the Hudson. Also had a mate phone me from his office in the city and say, quite incredulously, "Holy s**t, a plane just landed in the Hudson River!" Apparently it was a flock of geese, a number of which went through one or both of the engines. Big time reeespect to the pilot!

Yes, supposedly. You'd think they would come up with a design to eliminate that, but I guess that's an impossibility.

Couldn't they gaffa tape some chicken mesh fencing over the engines!

A good pilot is one who has the same number of landings as take offs and every landing is a controlled crash!

 

My Dad crash landed a Canberra in Luqa airport in Malta in the mid 60's and said later that your so busy you don't get time to worry about bowel voiding, but the "rush" you get when climbing out will last until the 12th beer!

Truly awesome, when both engines fail they loose hydraulics, so getting the flaps right is VERY difficult.

 

The pilot was an ex fighter pilot , I believe which may well have helped.

 

He apparently walked the isle twice too check all were off!!
